Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa & City Tour

Arrive in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s vibrant capital. After completing airport formalities, begin your city tour with visits to key landmarks such as the National Museum (home to the famous fossil “Lucy”), Holy Trinity Cathedral, and the bustling Mercato market. In the evening, enjoy your first taste of Ethiopian cuisine at a traditional restaurant while preparing for the adventure ahead.

Day 2: Fly to Semera – Begin Danakil Depression

Adventure Take a morning flight to Semera, the gateway to the Danakil Depression. Upon arrival, meet your local expedition team and travel into one of the hottest places on earth. Explore the surreal desert landscapes and continue toward the active Erta Ale volcano, known for its persistent lava lake. Camp under the open sky and experience the stark beauty of this remote region.

Day 3: Dallol and Lake Asale Exploration

Continue your journey to Dallol, a striking landscape of colorful sulfur springs, salt formations, and bubbling geothermal activity. Visit Lake Asale’s vast salt flats, where Afar miners extract salt using traditional methods passed down for generations. Capture stunning photographs and enjoy the dramatic scenery. Spend the night camping near the lake, surrounded by silence and endless horizons.

Day 4: Sunrise at Lake Asale – Drive to Mekelle

Wake early to witness a breathtaking sunrise over Lake Asale, as the salt flats glow in soft morning light. After breakfast, begin your drive north through changing landscapes toward Mekelle, the capital of the Tigray region. Check into your hotel and relax for the evening.

Day 5: Mekelle – Hawzen – Trek to Maryam Korkor

After breakfast, meet your guide and drive to the Gheralta region (approximately 2.5–4 hours), passing through scenic highlands. In the afternoon, start your trek to the remarkable rock-hewn churches of Maryam Korkor and Daniel Korkor, perched high above the valleys. Take in the impressive architecture and panoramic views before descending. Spend the night at a community lodge in Megab or Hawzen and enjoy a traditional dinner.

Day 6: Abuna Yemata Guh & Edaga Arbi Community Experience

Begin the day early with a climb to Abuna Yemata Guh, one of Ethiopia’s most spectacular churches, famous for its steep ascent and well-preserved 6th-century frescoes. After descending, return to Hawzen for lunch. In the afternoon, travel to Edaga Arbi, where you’ll take part in community-based experiences such as bread baking, honey tasting, or visiting a local farm. Overnight at a guesthouse or community-run lodge.

Day 7: Degamba Valley Trek & Return to Addis Ababa

Start your morning with breakfast overlooking the escarpments before setting out on a scenic trek through the lush Degamba Valley. Walk through rugged terrain and traditional villages, experiencing the daily life of local communities. After the trek, drive back to Mekelle and take your return flight to Addis Ababa, marking the end of your adventure.
