Local Market Experience
· 9:00 AM: Pick up from hotel in Gondar
· 9:30 AM: Arrive at local market with your guide
· Market Activities:
· Introduction to Ethiopian coffee beans (different varieties)
· Learn how to select quality coffee beans
· Purchase fresh green coffee beans directly from farmers
· Explore spice section: buy traditional spices (cinnamon, cardamom, cloves)
· Shop for traditional coffee ceremony items:
· Jebena (traditional coffee pot)
· Coffee cups
· Incense (etan)
· Traditional woven baskets
Lunch (12:00 PM – 1:00 PM)
· Traditional Ethiopian lunch at local restaurant
· Sample authentic Ethiopian coffee with meal
Afternoon (1:00 PM – 4:00 PM)
Coffee Ceremony Preparation & Experience
· 1:00 PM: Travel to local family home or cultural center
· 1:30 PM: Full Coffee Ceremony Process:
· Step 1: Washing the green coffee beans together with guests
· Step 2: Roasting beans over charcoal fire (guests participate)
· Step 3: Grinding beans with traditional tools (mukecha & zenezena)
· Step 4: Brewing coffee in jebena with traditional spices
· Step 5: Three rounds of coffee serving (Abol, Tona, Baraka)
· Step 6: Enjoy with traditional snacks (kolo, popcorn, bread)
Cultural Activities (4:00 PM – 5:00 PM)
· Learn about coffee’s significance in Ethiopian culture
· Storytelling about coffee’s discovery in Ethiopia
· Traditional coffee blessing ceremony
· 5:00 PM: Return to hotel
