3 Days Danakil: Erta Ale Volcano & Dallol

Day 1: Semera – Afdera Lake – Erta Ale Volcano
Fly to Semera. Meet your expedition crew and drive to Afdera for lunch. Continue on a bumpy road to the base of the Erta Ale volcano. Rest before starting the short ascent to the crater rim. Spend the night camping at the rim, looking into the glowing, permanent lava lake.
Day 2: Erta Ale Volcano – Hamed Ela – Lake Assal
Descend from Erta Ale in the morning. Drive for approximately 4 hours across the lava desert to Hamed Ela, a simple Afar village. In the late afternoon, drive to Lake Assal to admire the traditional salt mining and catch sight of the impressive camel caravans at sunset. Overnight: Afar Hut in Hamed Ela.
Day 3: Hamed Ela – Dallol – Semera
Start early to explore the incredible landscapes around Dallol (116 meters below sea level). Discover the bizarre salt formations, hundreds of fumaroles, and acidic lakes in vibrant colors. Explore other local highlights before driving back to Afdera and onto Semera. Overnight: Hotel in Semera.
