Day 1: Mekele – Hamede Ela
Drive to Hamedela via Berhale Drive from Mekele towards the Danakil Depression, passing through the town of Berhale where camel caravans stop. Observe the long camel caravans transporting salt. Continue to the Afar settlement of Hamed Ela. Enjoy the sunset over Dallol. Overnight: Camping in Hamed Ela.
Day 2: Dallol Excursion and Drive Back to Mekele
Early morning excursion to Ragad (Asebo) to witness the traditional salt mining—the breaking, cutting, and loading of salt blocks onto camels. Drive ahead to Dallol (116 meters below sea level) to explore its bizarre landscape formed by volcanic activity, including colorful salts, sulfuric springs, and Lake Assal. Drive back to Hamed Ela and proceed to Mekele.
